DRAMA
Performing arts provide children with opportunities to build cognitive skills. People involved in performing arts are able to engage the mind, body, and emotions in ways that permit them to stream through real-life circumstances with sympathy, understanding, passionate insights, and certainty. Children involved in performing arts at an early stage are equipped with the necessary skills to navigate through life.
Middle School Drama
In an Introduction to Drama, students will explore the world around them through performance skills. Students will be challenged, asked to move outside of their current comfort zones, and tap into their imaginations.
Students will have the opportunity to choose a role, whether on the stage, or behind the scenes, that is just right for them, and will work collaboratively with their peers to complete creative projects.
Student Learning Goals
Learn essential core theater principles in stage movement, diction, voice, and pantomime.
Study the history and vocabulary of theater.
Hone procedures to overcome stage-fright and create self-confidence.
Concentrate on improvisational techniques and acting skills for in-class performance.
Develop oral interpretation skills.
Study the works of selected major playwrights.
High School Drama
Theatre plays an important role in education, as an all-encompassing discipline that allows the student to explore, understand, and strengthen self-knowledge in many ways. While deepening their understanding of drama, students will strengthen their skills and sharpen problem-solving abilities. Additionally, students will harness key disciplines, therefore growing individuals with a strong sense of pride and accomplishment.
Student Learning Goals
Develop skills to portray compelling characters and complex scenes using drama techniques
Center on practical acting, commanding audience attention, and building an on-stage presence.
Understand and follow stage directions, and use proper techniques for body and voice control.
Learn and discuss the basic elements of drama to better understand and analyze characters and scripted material.
Study the history of theatre and notable playwrights to establish a historical perspective and relevance.
Develop knowledge of set design and development.
