WELCOME TO ELEMENTARY

Welcome to RCS elementary where we offer families a Christian atmosphere of loving teachers. We desire to build a personal relationship with your child to learn and grow together. Our students become innovative thinkers and explorers so they can make personal connections to their world and recognize Christ in their daily lives.

SPIRITUAL LIFE

ACADEMICS

  • Guided Reading to differentiate instruction and meet individual student needs through small group instruction.

  • Whole Novel Units in Grades 3-5 to explore literary elements and student analysis

  • 6 + 1 Writing Traits to express individual student experiences and develop researching skills.

  • BJU Grammar/Language to develop writing and reading skills.

  • BJU Spelling which is a critical component of communication skills.

  • Vocabulary development to build expression, fluency, and literacy through literature.

  • ABeka Phonics in Grades K-2 to decode letters into sounds and blends to develop stronger reading skills.

  • D’Nealian handwriting skills (Grades K-2) and cursive writing (Begins 2nd semester in 2nd Grade) to develop fine motor skills and a legible way to communicate with others.

  • Envision Mathematics that combines problem-based learning and visual learning to develop student’s mathematical knowledge and understanding in order to meet individual student needs through whole group and small group instruction.

  • BJU Science to shape a students’ worldview by exploring God’s creation.

  • BJU Social Studies to develop an understanding of the world and our students’ place in it as a child of God.

  • Bible curriculum to familiarize students with the Old Testament and how it connects to Jesus Christ as the Savior of our world while developing an understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Christ.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

  • Specific instruction designed to develop motor skills and knowledge and to provide students with confidence to be physically active for a lifetime.

ELECTIVES

  • Music - students develop musical skills through being an active participant in performing, listening, analyzing, and creating music through a variety of methods and strategies.

  • Art - students develop motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision making skills, risk-taking, and creativity while providing challenges and ways to explore their own creative expression.

  • Computer/Keyboarding - students learn the basic fundamentals of computer care and coding while learning to be responsible digital citizens and explore technological ways to express themselves in a variety of ways.

  • Library - students develop skills to explore their curiosity, find information, and apply knowledge to their own personal lives while fostering a love to read and discover new information about the world around them.

FIELD TRIPS

  • 2 field trips per grade level per school year

  • Each trip designed to meet the TEKS standards of a specific topic or curriculum focus

  • 5th Grade takes a 3 day, 2 night trip to Forest Glen Camp to explore, discover, investigate, and team build with their peers and teachers while in a Christian environment in order to see God all around them.

SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES

  • Family Events planned one per semester to foster community and unity as a school.

  • Classroom Parties for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter to celebrate and find joy together as a class with a service project focus to teach students to have a servant’s heart.

  • Students participate in 2 pep rally assemblies up to twice a year to build school spirit and unity.

  • Students participate in school wide events and activities to celebrate our heritage, our diversity as a country, and our patriotism in events such as Grandparents’ Day, Civics Day, Veteran’s Day, Go Texan Day, Dr. Seuss Day, Junior Achievement Program, and Mission Fair.

  • Social-emotional learning classes for each grade level provided by the school counselor to foster healthy relationships and promote students’ self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, decision-making skills, and godly conflict resolution while developing students into the individual that God has created them to be and making strong friendships with their peers.
